Problem Note 39311: Garbage output might be written to an RTF file when using the ACTIVEX device driver

DetailsAboutRate It
The ACTIVEX device driver only supports certain SAS/GRAPH® procedures, such as GPLOT, GCHART, and GMAP. If you use the ACTIVEX device driver with the ODS RTF destination with a SAS® or SAS/GRAPH procedure that the ACTIVEX driver does not support, garbage output will be written to the RTF file. When you open the RTF file with Microsoft Word, you will see a stream of characters across the page instead of the expected graphics output.

This problem will occur with any SAS or SAS/GRAPH procedure that the ACTIVEX device driver does not support, such as the GSLIDE, GREPLAY, and UNIVARIATE procedures.

To circumvent the problem, replace DEVICE=ACTIVEX on the GOPTIONS statement with either DEVICE=PNG or DEVICE=SASEMF.

Here is a complete list of the SAS/GRAPH procedures that the ACTIVEX device driver supports:

   GPLOT
   GCHART
   GMAP
   G3D
   GCONTOUR
   GBARLINE
   GTILE
   GAREABAR
